Christa’s Angels has agreed to partner with Haiti Partners, a US-based, Christian development agency that has long supported local, Haitian leadership in education programs in the Darbonne and Leogane area. Christa and Julian feel very strongly that our support for reconstruction and community building must rest on the foundation of trusting relationships with local community leaders, like those built over the last decade by John Engel and Kent Annan of Haiti Partners. Haiti Partners has agreed to enable our contributions through a designated fund.

On another note, we’ve gotten quite a few offers of books and other school materials. Clearly, schools need this sort of thing, and we’re willing to consider some donations of this type, but, keep in mind the following before you offer. First, school in Haiti is taught in a combination of Haitian Creole and French. Reading is done in French. English-language material is generally not useful. Furthermore, getting this material to schools in Haiti generally involves shipping it to Miami, finding a way to get it on a plane to Port-au-Prince, followed by paying someone to drive several hours each way to Port-au-Prince (as trucks are uncommon and there is no mail system in Haiti). So, the material must be worth the cost of delivery. Thanks for understanding!
